Full house refurbishment, piggyback loft conversion, rear extension and external landscaping – Kingston upon Thames
Project summary
If we had to describe what makes this build project so unique in just a few words we’d say: Cube restored a neglected detached Victorian house to its beautiful former glory. Key to this transformation was to both retain and recreate original features like cornicing and fireplaces, whilst introducing a modern twist through the interior design.
The project began with a strip-out from basement to top floor, including clearing the overgrown front and back gardens. Specialists tanked the ground floor to make it watertight, while work commenced on the top floor to build a piggyback loft conversion. Once the rear extension was completed, underfloor heating installed, and the entire house rewired and replumbed, this once-abandoned property began its journey back to being a beautiful, functional home.
The addition of a large roof light in the extension is a standout feature, flooding the living area with natural light and offering stunning views of the ever-changing British skies. Sliding doors at the rear open onto a landscaped patio, transforming a previously inaccessible, overgrown space into an inviting outdoor retreat. Where a tree once grew through the first floor, guests can now enjoy a comfortable stay.
With a piggyback loft conversion, a rear extension and full internal refurbishment, this Victorian home has gained an astonishing six additional rooms: a utility room, cloakroom, home office, bedroom, dressing room and shower room. Tasteful high-end fixtures, fittings and decoration choices give every room a distinctive charm. Finally, repointing the entire house not only gives it a fresh exterior but also ensures long-term protection against water ingress and structural damage.
