Infill extension and internal refurbishment – Teddington
Project summary
Here’s a home improvement project which proves that small period homes can shine big without compromising on character. When the owners of a Victorian terraced cottage in Teddington approached us, they sought to modernise their home with a new kitchen/diner and bathroom whilst retaining original fixtures and fittings.
Cube started out with structural works to support the first floor and demolished the existing rear extension. We then built a new extension following the rear footprint of the old one and also infilled the side with a full-length pitched glazed roof that sits on top of an internal exposed brick wall to provide valuable additional space. The pitched glazing feature floods an otherwise dark area of the cottage with natural light. Additionally, a window in the new flat roof and a fixed glazed panel next to bi-fold doors were also installed. Both the amount and choice of glazing really makes this extension project stand out.
Moving the bathroom from the ground up to first floor and dividing an open-plan space created further spatial opportunities on the ground floor. It now features a home office, a living area and the stunning new extension leads out onto the rear garden which benefits from hard landscaping and imaginative planting.
Underfloor heating now provides comfortable warmth throughout the extension and firmly brings the 21st century into our customer’s characterful Victorian home.
