Piggyback loft conversion – Kingston upon Thames
Project summary
Restoring this neglected detached Victorian house in Kingston to its beautiful former glory involved a complete refurbishment, an extension and a loft conversion. While we cover the entire scope of the project in our ‘refurbishment’ section, here we’ll focus on the loft conversion specifically.
Cube removed the existing roof and raised the height of the perimeter walls to construct a pitched roof, creating what’s called a piggyback loft conversion. Though less common than other types, piggyback loft conversions are an excellent way to increase head height and maximise living space.
As you come up the wooden staircase, to the right you find a modern shower room with stunning Crittall-style panels and windows on both sides that bring in a slice of heaven.
Along the corridor, a smart walk-in wardrobe with ample natural light from a Velux window is nestled between the eaves. Then at the end of the corridor you reach the bright and spacious master bedroom which is flooded with natural light through two large skylights and a Juliet balcony. The room feels cosy and offers a delightful connection to the outdoors when the shutters are drawn open.
